10 places you must visit in Rome

Rome is also known as the Eternal City and it is the capital of Italy and Lazio Region. By many people it is also considered as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Every year, Rome hosts around nine million international tourists, making it one of the most visited destinations in Europe. 

There are plenty of places, cultural landmarks and incredible architecture to visit in Rome. However, if you are not staying much in Rome, the following locations are certainly something you can’t miss, especially after having stayed for months in lockdown.

1. Colosseum 

The Colosseum certainly does not need any introduction. Back at the time it was the largest amphitheatre and it used to host up to 50,000 spectators for the combat between gladiators. It is located east of the Roman Forum and thanks to the optimal transportation system you will be able to reach it very quickly. In high season periods, it is quite packed with tourists, however it is a must and you can’t miss it!

2. Vatican’s City  

It is a city-state and the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. In the Vatican City you will be able to see the most stunning architecture and art. The Vatican Museum hosts famous Roman Sculptures and many cultural landmarks of the Renaissance. 
In the Vatican City, you must also visit St. Peter’s Basilica, the world’s largest basilica of Christianity. This place will make you dream with open eyes!

3. Piazza di Spagna

After having spent more than a month home, taking a walk around the most known squares in the City will make you feel much better! It is located at the bottom of the famous Spanish Steps where usually individuals sit there and enjoy the view. Around Piazza di Spagna you will also be able to enjoy the best cuisine, exclusive shops and most known coffee shops in town! 

4. Baths of Caracalla 

Here, you will be able to take one of the best walks ever. You will be surrounded by green and the most ancient buildings of the Roman times. Back at the time, they were the city's greatest public baths, where it could host more than 1600 bathers. Baths of Caracalla are only a few minutes away from the Circo Massimo metro station. Going here, during a sunny day will be the best choice to breathe some fresh air and enjoy incredible cultural landmarks! 

5. Villa Borghese Gardens 

Certainly the most stunning green area in Rome with amazing views! This is the best place to do sport activities with friends and family. While if you are not a sporty person, you may also visit the spectacular villas, buildings, museums and various attractions within the park. It is also the perfect spot to distract yourself after a full day of work!

6. Via del Corso 

 Via del Corso is the most known historical street of the city. You can enjoy the stunning cultural landmarks and piazzas around it such as the amazing Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Venezia. There are also many famous churches named Santa Maria dei Miracoli and San Carlo al Corso and many others. On the other hand, if you are also looking forward to distracting yourself and making some shopping or enjoying the italian cuisine, it is the perfect place to visit! 

7. Giardino degli Aranci 

A hidden gem right in the center of Rome. The Orange Trees Gardens is a vast park, located in the marvelous Aventine Hill.  One of the best views in Rome is here, where you will enjoy all of The Eternal City and the Janiculum. It is the place where individuals usually go to listen to some music and enjoy the sunset. 

8. Castel Sant’Angelo

Catel Sant’ Angelo needs no introduction. For art lovers, this is the place to be! Visiting a castle is always the right idea since it hides stories that are incredible and full of history. The museum offers known vintage prints, and monuments especially of the Renaissance, as well as many other landmarks.  You will also be able to look at incredible views over the whole city especially during sunset. 

9. The Mouth of Truth 

Is a marble disc with a relief carving of a man’s face of the ancient Roman times. It is a thrilling place to go with friends as there is a legend that states that the mouth of the marble closes if you stick your hand in it.  It is also worth visiting it since the Piazza della Verità is stunning and you will be able to have a walk in that amazing area, surrounded by art and history.

10. Forum of Augustus 

The perfect place to be if you are both an art lover and you enjoy nature. It is one of the imperial incomplete fora of Rome. The millennia-old building ruins and well preserved columns are astonishing and you will have a fully historical experience! Once you are in Rome its ruins is certainly something you need to visit!
